Does not the Ukranian miltary still have constriction, the drafting of all citizen and for example young men out of college or secondary education into the armed forces for 1 - 3 years even in 2013? Ukrain is a peacefull country, however, as they have demonstrated during past confrontations, the people will rally if the threat of war exist. The populations is saturated with Russians and quite frankly there isn't much difference in the language or the people. I believe if there was a threat to Ukraines national security Russia will come to their aid as would the United Sates and many other eastern European nations. Ukraine has the productive soil and much more to make them a asset to Russia. They also build some of the best tanks and turbines in the world! How do I know this? I have visted there many times and lived amongst the Ukranians! Don't under estimate their value and tenacity!!!

Timely post as some in the opposition commemorates the one-year anniversary of the Bolotnaya protest. Most of my Russian friends are indifferent to these protests. As long as the economy remains stable, few see the point of risking their career (or health) in protesting against the system. And this fear-factor should not be underestimated, as many Russians still retain memories of that knock upon the door in the middle of the night.

Each stage of society's development tends to generate a new form of government that reflects the changes in social relations between the citizens and their government. The emergence and rise of new elites collides against the monopoly and privileges of the old ruling elite. What in crisis times initiates so-called "people's revolutions" often leads to civil wars. But, because the new ruling elite maintain the paradigm of autocracy under the guise of democracy, such "democratic revolutions" only result in a transference of power from one group of elites to the next, something which is of little benefit to the well-being and development of society.

This is not the democracy, and the political systems based on the principle of "the one is the winner, the rest are the losers" are unjust from the start and will never be able to bring freedom, peace and stable equilibrium to a society. Therefore protests are repeated now and again...

Meanwhile, the real revolution with the potential to change the status-quo in governance starts with new, innovative ideas and a "eureka" moment.
The new, MULTIPOLAR democratic governance system comprising 5 independent political parties with a movable centre of joint decisions, would be more adequate form of government for a modern dynamic and multicultural society. A working multi-party system within the government guarantees multiculturalism, tolerance and social stability within community. The President isn't present more...
A new political system as a real Democratic Revolution. Greetings from Russia.

I thought that the decission was made to put less eggs in one basket. Witch means de hulls of Project 955A will carry 16 Bulava missiles instead of 20 Bulava missiles. This because the increased length of the hull led to decreased levels of maneuverability. If true, this could very well have some implications on the planned nummer of Borey SSBN after 2020 (8-10).

Also, the design specifications of the russian 5th generation are very intresting. It's a sort of combining the SSBN and SSGN (long range conventional strike) role and mission into one hull.

A minor correction on the Bulava: As General Yesin told me a couple of years ago, the Bulava is a completely new missile. It shares only the bus design with the TOPOL-M (SS-27 and RS-24). This may account for a lot of its developmental problems.

As for Russian problems with the U.S. deploying missile defenses in Europe, and "globally," it is not to be forgotten that there is a powerful political element in America that still dreams of a conducting a first disarming strike on Russian strategic nuclear systems. When Rep. Rogers of Michigan says, "We must preserve the counterforce capabilities in our nuclear forces," that's what he's talking about. The Russians still take the Keir Lieber/Darryl Press journal articles as authoritative.
